First Time User Registration for Interlibrary Loan

The Lexington Public Library encourages cardholders to use I.L.L. to request books and magazine articles we do not own. To see if the item is available at the Central Library or one of our branches please check our catalog or call the library nearest you. If LPL does not own the item, complete the online I.L.L. form. Once you have placed your request, you can check its status, ask for an extension of the loan period (renewal), and print articles we have obtained from other libraries for you.

To request an item through Interlibrary Loan, you must first identify yourself to the library's ILLiad system. To do this you fill out a registration form using your Web browser.
Registration has three purposes:

  • Entering your personal information into the ILLiad system means you will not have to supply the information again when making future requests.
  • Having your e-mail and regular mail addresses on file with Interlibrary Loan enables us to notify you promptly and deliver materials accurately when your request arrives in the library.
  • By specifying a Username and Password of your choosing, you will have secure access to information about your requests. You will also be able to review the list of items you have requested in the past.

About your Library Card Number and PIN

During registration, you will be asked to enter your Library Card Number and PIN. You will use this Library Card Number and PIN when logging on to the ILLiad system in the future.

Library Card Number
Please enter your library card number that is associated with the Lexington Public Library. If at any point you have to get a new library card number please contact the ILL department at Central Library for help changing your ILL account over to the new library card number.

Generally your PIN will be the last four digits of the phone number you provided when you received your LPL library card. If you forget your PIN for the ILL system please either have it sent to you through e-mail or contact the ILL department at the central library to have your PIN reset.
ILLiad will encrypt your password, so it will remain secure. Only you will know your password.

Important Copyright Information

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research". If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use", that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
